I remember the first time I register for the Commission on Election for me to able to practice my right to vote as I turn into legal age. It wasn’t that difficult unlike what most of new registrant experienced lately. I came to the Local Comelec to register together with my dad few days ahead before the last filing of registration. I bought my school ID and some identifications as the requirements for the registration.

Now that the system for the upcoming 2010 presidential election will be automated my question is, does my registration is still valid and doesn’t need to be renewed? And what is this Biometrics? I need to validate my entry for me to be able to rest my agony.

First thing I did is to look for the meaning of Biometrics. Maybe some people are familiar with it, but not me. Though, maybe I know what is it, I just I didn’t know what the term for that.

Biometrics is the science and technology of measuring and analyzing biological data. In information technology, biometrics refers to technologies that measure and analyze human body characteristics, such as fingerprints, eye retinas and irises, voice patterns, facial patterns and hand measurements, for authentication purposes.

Biometric devices, such as fingerscanners, consist of:
• A reader or scanning device
• Software that converts the scanned information into digital form and compares match points
• A database that stores the biometric data for comparison

As far as I remember the local Comelec get my finger prints using a fingerscanner, so it means they got my biometrics. But this must be verified.

I tried to search online and look for the Comelec website. And Voila! the website does exist. Now for the verification, I went to the Comelec’s Registration Verification page. I encoded my Firstname, Middlename, Lastname and Birthdate, then I click Find Now, at this time it will advise you your registration details. Registration details include Province, City/Municipality, Barangay, Precinct No., Status and Biometrics Info. Yahoo! I can practice my right this coming election, and will never miss which precinct im located.. no more precinct hunt, I HOPE!
